Joan M. Lamanna, 88, a life-long resident of Hazleton passed away on Friday at Mountain City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She had been a resident of The Laurel’s Senior Living Community for ten years before taking ill in July.

Born in Hazleton, she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Nellie (Lombardo) Lamanna (Lamont) and had been a member of Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church, Hazleton.

She was a member of the Hazleton Art League, Garden Club, and a past president of the Hazleton Women’s Club. A devout Catholic, she was active in church organizations and especially loved St. Mauro’s Festival. Joan was proud of her Italian heritage and to be a coal miner’s daughter. She was a real proper lady and had a smile for all. Joan loved bus trips and cruises. She was a world traveler; walked on an Alaskan glacier and saw the pyramids of Egypt. She felt most blessed to have been to Lourdes, France, and Fatima, Portugal where there were visions of the Virgin Mary.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were brothers Clarence, Dominic, Joseph, John, Alphonso and Robert; sisters Irene (Dougherty) Andreuzzi, Anna Formanowski, and Elizabeth DeBelle; nephews John Lamont, Douglas Dougherty, Lester DeBelle, Patrick DeBelle; and niece Maria Pavone.
