Jean (Kisthardt) Peterson, age 95, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on August 18, 2020, surrounded by family. Jean was born to Stella (Wersinger) and John N Kisthardt on December 31, 1924 in Trenton NJ. She was raised in Beaver Meadows and graduated from Hazleton High School in 1942. Jean married Lester C Peterson Jr. in 1947, a union lasting 65 years until his death in 2012. They relocated to Hazleton where they raised their family.

Jean’s work experience included sewing in various area textile mills and later working in retail until her retirement. She was a talented seamstress, quilter and knitter. A quick wit and always good with words, Jean was a fearsome Scrabble opponent.

Jean was a long-time member of Christ Lutheran Church, Hazleton.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Karen (Terry) Kolet of Machipongo, VA, and Anne (Eric) Snyder and Bonnie (Keith) Whitebread of Sugarloaf, PA. Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to those staff members of the Connections Unit of Providence Place who provided exemplary loving care for Jean and to Bayada Hospice.

A private graveside service will be conducted by her pastor, Rev Wayne Lupole, at Calvary Cemetery, Drums PA.
