    • Obituary
Robert George Peak (85) passed away peacefully on February 21st, 2026, after a long battle with illness. Born July 12th, 1940, to Margaret and George Peak, Robert grew up in Hazleton, PA, with his brother, Martin, and sister, Elaine.

He attended Hazle Township High School, where he met his bride of 63 years, Dorothy. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1958 to 1960. He attended basic training at Fort Dix in New Jersey before going overseas to serve in Germany. During his time in Germany, he was a Corporal in the 38th Artillery Missile Battalion and received several accolades at various levels: the Presidential Unit Citation, the Soldier of the Month (March 1960), and the Good Conduct Medal.

After his service, Robert returned to Luzerne County, where he and Dorothy started their life together. He worked for the former Spaulding’s Bakery and Stroehmann’s Bakery before his retirement. Robert spent many years in service to God working at the former Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Harleigh, where he was a member of the Men of the Sacred Heart. He continued his work for the church in his retirement at St. John Bosco Church in Conyngham, PA. Robert was strong-willed at times, but he also had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He had a special talent for filling a room with laughter at his jokes and antics. He was an avid NASCAR fan. Above all, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to those who knew him.

He will be greatly missed by all. Robert is survived and missed by his loving wife, the former Dorothy Matuella; Children, Marisa (Sean) Flynn of State College, PA, Lori Peak of Orwigsburg, PA, Robert (Shannon) Peak of Rockwall, TX, and Michele (with companion Erik) Barcheski of Ringtown, PA; Sister, Elaine (Thomas) Zarosky of Sugarloaf, PA. He is loved and remembered by six grandchildren: Robbie, Kate, Rebekah, Riley, Emilee, and Elijah, as well as a great-grandchild, Cecilia.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret, and his brother, Martin.
