Joan P. (Kish) Gunzerath of Hazleton passed away on Saturday, December 3 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Hazleton.

She was born on February 21, 1934 to John and Edith Kish of McAdoo, where she graduated from McAdoo High School in 1952.  She married John Gunzerath in 1956, and they proudly lived their entire lives in the Hazleton area, where they raised their two children.  She worked for years in the garment industry, and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.  Joan was particularly fond of both Senape’s and Longo’s pitza, as well as many of the ethnic food delicacies often found in the area.  She also had a love of animals, especially her cats.

Preceding her in death was her husband John, and brother Donald Kish of Lake View NY.  She is survived by her son David Gunzerath and daughter-in-law Patricia Jordan of Red Hook NY; daughter Patricia and son-in-law William Stradley of Wilmington DE and their three children; her sister, Marjorie Wolk; and numerous nephews and nieces.

The family would like to thank the staffs at Providence Place, Drums, and The Manor at St. Luke’s Village for their kindness and care for Joan in recent years.

Burial services will be private.  The Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton, with Tom Boyle assisting, is in charge of the arrangements.

For anyone who wishes to make a donation in Joan’s memory, the family suggests a gift to the Hazleton Animal Shelter (P.O. Box 481, Hazleton, PA 18201), or to another animal welfare organization of one’s choosing, would be an appropriate remembrance.
