Patricia R. “Pat” Fellin, 87, passed away peacefully March 15th surrounded by the love of her family. Born in McAdoo on Dec. 13, 1938, Pat was the daughter of the late Anna (Fedashko) and Joseph Godinsky and was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and community.

On Nov. 26, 1960, she married John F. “Jack” Fellin, and together they shared nearly 59 years of marriage grounded in faith, partnership and devotion to their six children and extended family. “Mom” and “Nana” were her best roles.

Pat graduated early from Hazleton High School in 1955 after advancing from sixth to eighth grade as part of the “speeders” academic group, a fact that made her proud. She attended Temple University, where she completed her nursing education and trained alongside pioneering medical researcher Dr. Roger W. Sevy, who was instrumental in advancing early artificial kidney (dialysis) technology and introduced one of the first artificial kidney machines.

She dedicated her professional life to nursing and worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital, provided compassionate care through private duty nursing and in local nursing homes, and served as a school nurse, including at Penn State Hazleton. Pat concluded her career as a workers’ compensation nurse with Liberty Mutual.

Pat was an active member of St. John Bosco Church, Sugarloaf, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and Parish Council leader. Along with her husband, she served for more than 30 years as a Pre-Cana marriage preparation team leader for the Diocese of Scranton. Most recently, she was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church, Orefield.

Pat volunteered with many organizations through the years including West Hazleton High School Band Parents, Easter Seals Society, YWCA Teens, among others and was a member of the Hazleton Art League Book Club and Bellefonte Catholic Daughters of America Court. She had a lifelong interest in reading, enjoyed painting, watching Hallmark movies, and traveling, which she did extensively with her husband and family.

Pat is survived by her six children: Lynne A. Fellin, Richmond, Va.; Amy (Nick) Caputo, Bellefonte; Jill (Tim) Fitzgerald, Orefield; Patrick (Shannon) Fellin, Southbury, Conn.; Beth (Paul) Barainyak, Collegeville; and Molly (Dave) Spence, Frederick, Md.; 11 grandchildren, Colin Fitzgerald (Leah Church); Maura, Quinn, Eva, Clare and Brody Fellin; Sarah, Jacob and Joshua Barainyak; and Jackson and Phoebe Spence; a sister, Donna (Ed) Shaw, Cinnaminson, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Cathy Godinsky, Elgin, Ill.; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Jack, in 2019; and her brother, Joseph “Josie” Godinsky, in 2023.

Pat’s family would like to sincerely thank the nurses, staff and pastoral team at Fellowship Community, Whitehall, and Heather Glen Senior Living, Orefield, for their compassionate and loving care of our mother and grandmother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M., Monday, March 23rd, at St. John Bosco Church. Pat will be laid to eternal rest at Calvary Roman Catholic Cemetery, Drums. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 P.M. Sunday at Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Pat’s memory to Fellowship Community at www.fellowshipcommunity.com/giving or to Easterseals Eastern Pennsylvania at eastpa.easterseals.com.

Jyoti and I offer our deep condolences to Pat's entire family.   I knew Pat as Mrs. Fellin and found her wit and humor to always be sharp and on point.  I hope her family and dear friends can reflect on all the moments of joy and laughter that Pat brought into their lives.  May Mrs. Fellin rest in peace.

I’m very sorry to learn of Mrs. Fellin’s passing. She and Jack were wonderful people who raised a tremendous family of equally wonderful people. What a great legacy. I’m very glad I got to know and interact with all of you back in the OLMC days. On behalf of the Donati family, I send my deepest condolences and sympathies. May Pat rest in peace.
