Obituary
Born in 1951, he was the son of late William and Dolores (Ferry) Dolon and was a lifelong member of Annunciation Parish at St. Gabriel’s Church. A 1969 graduate of St. Gabriel’s high school, he went on to earn his degree from Temple University. He was employed by Dryfoos Insurance for 50 years as a VP, CPCU where he built lasting relationships with colleagues and clients. Mike was deeply involved with his community. He was a Fourth degree Knight of Columbus, former Exalted Ruler and Trustee at the Elks Lodge #200, charter member of the Antient Order of Hibernians and a member of the YMPA. Above all, Mike was everyone’s coach, little league baseball, youth soccer, junior high and Holy Spirit Academy basketball coach. He was an athlete and started coaching when his kids got into sports but never left- he continued to coach because he enjoyed watching kids excel in their dreams and help transition young kids into young adults that can make good decisions- on and off the court. A founding member of the Irish Lads band, Mike shared his love of music across the Eastern United States, Caribbean, and Canada. They recorded five albums of songs and just celebrated 47 years together. His music brought joy to many and was a source of pride throughout his life.
Above all, Mike’s greatest role was as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Denise (Ranick) Dolon; his children, Shannon Panisak and husband Michael (Mountaintop, Pa), Dr. Kelly Dolon (Cinnaminson, NJ), and Dr. Patrick Dolon and wife Christine (Cinnaminson, NJ); and his treasured grandchildren, Arabella Panisak and Madison Dolon. He is survived by his sisters Mary Dolon (Hazleton), Kay Dolon Furches and husband Vincent (Hazleton); his brother William Dolon (Gibsonia, PA); many loving nieces and nephews and his late brother, Dennis Dolon.
Mike had many talents, hobbies and enjoyed helping the community anytime he could. He enjoyed sailing, golfing, visiting the ocean, reading, motorcycles and he was a self-taught Celtic musician. He was the best storyteller in the world. However, his greatest love was for his family. He was known as a trustworthy, humble, and dedicated man who was always there for everyone. He had strong values and a contagious smile. He took great pride in his family and especially loved spending time and playing, laughing and simply being present with his two grandchildren, Arabella and Madison.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 24th at 10 A.M. Annunciation Parish at St. Gabriel’s Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Drums. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 23rd, in Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th Street, Hazleton from 6-8 P.M. -
