Michael J. Dolon, 73, of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, passed away on April 14th, at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and family.  Mike was known as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, coach, and Irish Lad. Mike was cherished by many for his kindness, humility and unwavering dedication to those he loved.

Born in 1951, he was the son of late William and Dolores (Ferry) Dolon and was a lifelong member of Annunciation Parish at St. Gabriel’s Church. A 1969 graduate of St. Gabriel’s high school, he went on to earn his degree from Temple University. He was employed by Dryfoos Insurance for 50 years as a VP, CPCU where he built lasting relationships with colleagues and clients.  Mike was deeply involved with his community.  He was a Fourth degree Knight of Columbus, former Exalted Ruler and Trustee at the Elks Lodge #200, charter member of the Antient Order of Hibernians and a member of the YMPA.  Above all, Mike was everyone’s coach, little league baseball, youth soccer, junior high and Holy Spirit Academy basketball coach. He was an athlete and started coaching when his kids got into sports but never left- he continued to coach because he enjoyed watching kids excel in their dreams and help transition young kids into young adults that can make good decisions- on and off the court.  A founding member of the Irish Lads band, Mike shared his love of music across the Eastern United States, Caribbean, and Canada.  They recorded five albums of songs and just celebrated 47 years together. His music brought joy to many and was a source of pride throughout his life.

Above all, Mike’s greatest role was as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Denise (Ranick) Dolon; his children, Shannon Panisak and husband Michael (Mountaintop, Pa), Dr. Kelly Dolon (Cinnaminson, NJ), and Dr. Patrick Dolon and wife Christine (Cinnaminson, NJ); and his treasured grandchildren, Arabella Panisak and Madison Dolon.  He is survived by his sisters Mary Dolon (Hazleton), Kay Dolon Furches and husband Vincent (Hazleton); his brother William Dolon (Gibsonia, PA); many loving nieces and nephews and his late brother, Dennis Dolon.

Mike had many talents, hobbies and enjoyed helping the community anytime he could.  He enjoyed sailing, golfing, visiting the ocean, reading, motorcycles and he was a self-taught Celtic musician.  He was the best storyteller in the world.  However, his greatest love was for his family.  He was known as a trustworthy, humble, and dedicated man who was always there for everyone.  He had strong values and a contagious smile.  He took great pride in his family and especially loved spending time and playing, laughing and simply being present with his two grandchildren, Arabella and Madison.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 24th  at 10 A.M. Annunciation Parish at St. Gabriel’s Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Drums. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 23rd, in Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th Street, Hazleton from 6-8 P.M.

      Denise and Family,
The Cipriano Family sends our deepest condolences to you at the passing of Mike.  I have known Mike since the late 70's plus our time coaching basketball together at Hafey.  A great guy-I'm so glad I got to see you both and speak to you recently.  May he rest in peace and may our God give His peace to your family.

We are saddened to hear of Mikes passing. He will be missed by many. He was very dedicated to family and it was obvious when you spent time talking to him. We enjoyed hi company when we would see him at the Elks.
Your family is in our prayers during this difficult time.

With deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved husband, father, sibling, and friend. Mike was a good person always kind and friendly. Mike was one of a few instructors who gave me driving lessons, and was by far the most patient. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Take comfort in the knowledge that he is home with the Lord.

Growing up next door to your family gave us a front-row seat to witness the kind, generous, and joyful spirit of your husband and dad. Our wiffleballs peppered your back patio, our basketballs ricocheted off the red fence Mike built by hand, and our homeruns landed softly in his perfectly kept green lawn. We shot hoops in your driveway and your space became our occasional extended playground. Through it all, Mr. Dolan would simply smile—welcoming the noise and energy of our childhood. He genuinely seemed to enjoy seeing us outside, laughing and playing. Mike’s laugh was infectious, his disposition warm, and his smile ever-present. We were fortunate to grow up beside you. Please know we are holding you close in prayer, asking for God’s peace, comfort, and strength to surround you during this time. And as for Mr. Dolan—no doubt he’s now lending that bright voice and accordion play to God’s heavenly choir.
