Obituary
Mack Daughtry Jr., “Jack”, 78, of Hazle Twp., passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday November 2nd, 2024. Born in Enigma, GA, he was the son of the late Mack and Susie (Glover) Daughtry Sr.
Jack attended Nashville High School of Berrien County, GA and went on to graduate from Albany State University in Albany, GA. He was then drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in 1968. He went on to play with the Carolina Cougars from 1970-1971 and was a Harlem Globetrotter for one season. Jack then moved to Pennsylvania where he played for the Wilkes-Barre Barons, a semi-professional team, for several years.
Although basketball was his passion, Jack was a lifelong and loyal Steelers fan. He was an avid baseball & softball enthusiast as well. He played in numerous softball leagues in Wilkes-Barre and throughout the Wyoming Valley for several years.
Prior to retiring, Jack was an activities director at the SCI Retreat in Hunlock Creek for 20+ years and previously worked at the Keystone Job Corps Center in Drums, PA. He also drove the school bus for the Hazleton Area schools for many years, where he enjoyed interacting with the children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Henry, J.C. and Roosevelt Daughtry; sisters Emma Daughtry, Mattie Taylor and Marlene Henderson.
Leaving to cherish his memory are his wife of 24 years, the former Sherry Johnson; daughters Karen Daughtry and Stephanie Brewster (Rev. Michael), both of Wilkes-Barre; son Nicholas Campbell, Hazle Twp.; grandchildren Rianna and Cameron Daughtry, Kendall and Keagan Brewster; great grandchildren Luxe Daughtry and Amira Brewster; brother David Daughtry (Kathy) and sisters Mary Phillips, Ruby Green, and Betty McRay, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Special acknowledgement to neighbors Gary and Joann Rosato, his closest friends and in-laws Stephanie Johnson and Sandra & Tom LaMare for all the support and care you provided.
Homegoing services will be held on Friday, November 8th. The family will receive friends on Friday at the Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton, PA from 3-5: P.M. The service will begin immediately following visitation at 5 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Research Institute. -
