Peter A. Ciavarella Sr., 70, of Mountain Top, passed away unexpectedly Monday at his home.  Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Anthony and Antoinette (Chicalese) Ciavarella and was member of Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church, Hazleton.

Peter graduated Hazleton High School in 1970 and worked as an established self-taught engineer and machine specialist in the stainless-steel industry for over 40 years. He was a man of many talents who loved to fix anything for a friend or family member 24/7. Peter had an eye for a good deal, and loved to find and sell items at an auction or flea market. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and just recently celebrated their anniversary in Hawaii where they went on their honeymoon in 1975. He loved his mother and father immensely and enjoyed taking on any project with his brother throughout his life. He also loved helping his sisters in tasks around the home; no matter what it was.  He loved his two sons with all his heart and his sons mutually admired him as their hero. His five grandchildren were the center of his world and he loved spending time with them; whether it be at sporting events especially soccer games, going to wrestling with Ethan, attending countless dance recitals or even when they would spend time teaching him how to use his iPad and cell phone; He loved it all.

Surviving is his loving wife of 47 years, Laura Lee (Ratchko); sons Anthony and wife Maureen, and Peter; grandchildren Alexis, Vincent, Isabella, Ethan, Kenzie; brother Rocco Ciavarella and wife Maryanne; sisters Ann Russell and husband John and Mary Jo Cussatt and husband Anthony; Godsons Rocco Ciavarella Jr. and Nicholas Russell; and many nieces and nephews.

Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton, on Thursday, December 8th, from 6-9 P.M. and Friday, December 9th, from 9-9:30 A.M.  His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 9th, at 10 A.M. in Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church.  Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.
