Donna Marie (Piehota) Billig, 80, of Hazleton, passed away Wednesday at St. Luke’s Hospice Bethlehem.  Born in Hazleton, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence R. and Irene (Greech) Piehota and was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church, Hazleton.

Donna was a 1962 graduate of Hazleton High School and was employed in the garment industry for many years. She worked at Skippy Footwear, Young World and Hazleton Knitwear, which was owned by her mother. She also spent many years collecting donations for the American Cancer Society for which she received numerous awards.

The most important role to her though was being a loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She is remembered as being kind, thoughtful and generous.

Donna was proud of her Polish heritage as evident in the traditions she carried on from her own parents. Christmas Eve dinners were her favorite, where she thrived on family coming together for a celebratory meal. She also inspired new traditions to be born. Every Christmas Eve had a new theme which included matching Christmas ornaments with bells for all. She always reminded us that “every time a bell rings, an angel gets their wings.” Donna had a tremendous love and adoration for her family, especially her grandchildren. She took great pride in watching them grow and celebrating their accomplishments. She enjoyed spending quality time together and making beautiful memories that would last a lifetime.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Lewis J. Billig; children Jeffrey (Kimberly) Billig, Brian (Kelly) Billig and Jennifer (Corey) Collier and 8 grandchildren: Cassandra, Jeffrey and James Billig; Brian, Noah, Jax and Ty Billig; and Cameron Collier. She is also survived by her brothers Larry (Lorraine) Piehota, John Piehota, Richard “Rick” Piehota, and David (Pamela) Piehota and several nieces and nephews.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 4th at 10 A.M. in Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 3rd, at the Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton from 6-8 P.M. and on Wednesday morning, December 4th, at the church from 9-10 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.

I am saddened by the loss of Donna. She was a beautiful woman inside and outside. I remember when I was young and she was living  on Lincoln Street. A group of us would get together and talk and have a great time. Donna and her mom were always so kind to me
I saw her a few months ago at Boyer’s and talked and laughed remembering the good times we had when we were young.
Sending sympathy and prayers for you and your family.
May God hold her in his loving arms . She will sadly missed by all that knew her .🙏
